just the names and a brief description of each character.
Kahlan- main character. She strives for excellence and is irritated by men's fascination with her.
Azeral- Kahlan's mate. Wants to keep Kahlan safe and by his side by all means necessary.
Laveidem- The scout for the werewolf clan Crimson Tide. He also has a slight obsession with Kahlan, but hides it in small compliments.
Hrothgar- the blacksmith of the village closest to Kahlan's original den. Tends to hide his emotions behind a blank face, yet when he falls in love he falls hard.
Raze/Luke- The king of Crimson Tide. Constantly attempts to woo Kahlan with his power, yet she constantly ignores his pursuit.
Joshua- The street rat Kahlan meets in the first village. He constantly stays on her last nerve, and constantly makes Kahlan want to kill him.
Solforge- One of the scouts for Kindred Souls, the vampire clan Kahlan gains acceptance in. Finds himself dumbstruck the first time he sees Kahlan, yet maintains a respectful distance and composure.
Bloodvreyn- The rogue vampire, who finds himself intrigued the first time he meets Kahlan. He can't help himself and, in the midst of battle, bites Kahlan.
Simet- Laviedem's niece. Finds herself wishing that Kahlan was her mother, instead of her real mother.
Zach- Simet's father and Laveidem's brother in law. Tries to weasel information about Kahlan to Kindred Souls, but normally fails.
Darius- A wise old werewolf that resides in the original village. He lost his tongue in battle, so now no longer possesses the ability to speak.
William- Azeral's foster brother and Darius' foster son. Tries to assist Kahlan whenever she needs it, but always keeps in mind that she's Azeral's girl.
Richard- Just a really close friend. Doesn't do much to help or hinder Kahlan, even though he owes his life to her.
Chuck- Kahlan's sworn enemy, even though he started out as a friend. He's the cause for the changes that happened in Kahlan's life.
Raull- The unfortunate man who found Kahlan after her weakest hour. Has the opportunity to see Kahlan naked, but the victory is short lived.
Orik- Hrothgar's only son. Looks up to Kahlan, but is eventually separated from her, and his life.
Sariahnna- Simet's mother and Laveidem's sister. She loves to be the center of attention, and attempts to pick more than one argument with Kahlan.
Anthony- a common messenger boy for Crimson Tide. he stays in the background, yet involuntarily plays a large role in Kahlan's future.
Nick- A brave,heroic wolf prince whom was exiled for betrayal against his kingdom. he seeks to one day find what he has been waiting for, for a long time.
